Suicides and Christianity - Part II

My wife and I just finished watching two of William Shakespeare's plays:   Julius Caesar and Anthony and Cleopatra.  After I wrote my blog on suicide, these plays struck me.  Cleopatra says:
Let's do it after the high Roman fashion,
And make death proud to take us.

So what is the "high Roman fashion"?  Suicide.  In the play Julius Caesar, Mark Anthony's and Octavius's opponents, Brutus and Cassius, both commit suicide.  In the following play, Anthony and Cleopatra, Anthony's advisor commits suicide instead of helping Mark Anthony commit suicide.  Then Anthony commits suicide and then Cleopatra, and some of her handmaidens.
Fast forward two thousand years and you see the end of the Third Reich, many, Nazis committed suicide:  Adolf Hitler, his wife Eva nee Braun Hitler, Joseph and his wife Magda Goebbels, Heinrich Himmler, Martin Bormann, Gen. Walter Kruger, etc.
It is noteworthy that Christianity views human life as precious - something to be treasured.  That is why Christians started the first hospitals, and rescued the thrown-away babies in the Roman Empire.
Thank You Lord God Almighty for making us in Your image.  Thank You for sending Your Son for us so that we might live a full life on this earth.

Marriage and Prosperity

Seventy-one percent of low-income families are headed by single parents.  Seventy-three percent of families with children who are headed by married parents live above the poverty line.  "If you finish high school, get a job, and get married before having children, you have a 98% chance of not being in poverty."  (New York City poster).
So it looks like marriage is economically better for the children.  Why is that?  One thought is that when you marry, you are willing to make a commitment for life.  Because you are willing to make that commitment, you will often commit yourself to a job.  Those that are not willing to commit to a marriage, also won't give what they should to a job.

So let us marry, enjoy life, and do what is right for our children.

The World Turned Upside Down: Kittens and Abortion

Sorry for the delay in posting a blog.  I was out to sea and did not get a chance to write a blog.

In today's local paper The Virginian Pilot we read the sad story of Kevin Tyler Bramble who got a kitten on Craig's List.  After three days, he threw the kitten against a wall with such force that the kitten instantly died.  For this, he was sentenced to prison for five years for animal cruelty.  He is going to serve six months and then he is going to be on probation for 4 1/2 years.
In today's local paper, The Virginian Pilot we read the sad story of Texas State Senator Wendy Davis.  She conducted a successful eleven hour filibuster against a proposed Texan  law that would ban abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy because at that age unborn babies feel pain.  Thus, abortionists can continue to abort those young'uns who feel excruciating pain and die.

Lord God Almighty, forgive our nations for the sin of caring more about animals than humans.

Suicides and Christianity

Suicides are on the increase.  The rate increase of suicide for 35-64 year olds went up 28%, from 13.7 to 17.4/100,000 between 1999 and 2010.  The study then broke it down by age, race, and state.  The questions that were not discussed was the Christian aspect.  What was the suicide rate of those who attended church once a week and those who never attended church?  What was the suicide rate of homosexuals?  These questions were not asked.  Could the higher rate be because there is less faith in God?
In 1983 I talked to a World War II US Army lieutenant who had led his troops in fierce fighting in Northern Italy.  Unlike in France where there was a lot of success, the Germans fought fiercely in northern Italy.  The lieutenant said that some of his men had succumbed to battle fatigued (WW I shell shock, now post-traumatic stress disorder).  Interestingly, not a single one of those who had battle fatigue was a Christian.  Granted the sample size was one anecdote from one lieutenant.  But nevertheless, it is telling.
When you are a Christian, you realize that God loves you and He has sent His Son to die for you.  Further, you know that no matter how bad this world is, God has prepared a place for you in heaven.  Suicide is not a Christian option.

The Ugly Secret: Homosexuals and sex abuse in the military

The military has an ugly secret - and that is that the homosexuals are a major cause of the increase in sexual assaults.  The military hides that fact.  After all, the word "homosexual" is not even mentioned in the Department of Defense Annual Report on Sexual Assault in the Military.  According to the Washington Times that broke the story, of the 26,000 cases of sexual assault, 14,000 victims were male.  Ninety-eight percent were male vs. male.  The homosexual community reports that 5% of the population is homosexual.  [That figure is probably 5 times too  high, but for the sake of the argument, we will accept their figure.]  So 5% of the population is committing 55% of the sexual assault crimes in the military!   But the media is so scared of the homosexual community that they ignore this story.
There are consequences of repealing the Don't Ask Don't Tell laws.  There also consequences of ignoring God's Word.
